Saturday, December 13th – (Unsanctioned) Olympic Weightlifting Competition

We will be hosting an Olympic weightlifting meet at Asheville Strength on Saturday, December 13th! Open to all lifters, ages, and levels. “No singlet, no problem,” meaning because this is not a sanctioned competition with USA Weightlifting, you can wear shorts and a T-shirt to compete. This will be a fun and relaxed atmosphere, but we will follow IWF rules regarding what makes a lift “good.”
We will announce the top three lifters as determined by the Sinclair Formula.
Registration is $10 by PayPal only! We also ask that you bring a donation for the homeless, which will be delivered to the Downtown Welcome Table at Haywood Community Church. They are in need of the following: New socks and underwear, long johns in all sizes, unflavored coffee, travel sized toiletries, Aspirin and Aleve, Clorox wipes.
Based on previous meets, we plan to run ONE large session. All lifters should be prepared to check-in and weigh-in at 9:30 am with lifting starting at approximately 11:00 am. However, we will run TWO sessions if we register more than 20 lifters. If that changes, we will notify you by Wednesday, December 10th prior to the meet. We will not have a 2 hour weigh-in, as this meet is unsanctioned, so please arrive for weigh-in ON TIME in order to complete a waiver, weigh-in, attend a rules meeting, and warm up.
If you’ve never participated in a weightlifting meet, this is a great opportunity to learn everything you need to know before you do your first sanctioned meet. If you don’t want to lift but want to see what a sanctioned meet is like before taking the plunge, you can stop by the gym to watch! No charge for spectators.
